Add your family’s story
Two ways in. Fill out the questionnaire in about fifteen minutes, or sit for a recorded interview with a Tarita Foundation student. Both are free, both are voluntary, and in both you decide how your name appears.
The questionnaire
For students
About thirty short questions on food, language, home, expectations, and what you want remembered. Written for anyone in middle or high school whose family has roots in Asia.
For parents and grandparents
The same idea, asked of the generation that made the journey: what you thought America was before you came, who decided, what you brought, what surprised you, what you gave up.
Both questionnaires are also available in Chinese. Write to taritafoundation@gmail.com for the links.
A recorded interview
If you would rather talk than type, a student interviewer will record a conversation of fifteen to forty-five minutes, over Zoom or in person in the Boston area. You will be asked at the start and again at the end whether the recording may be published, and you can ask to review the transcript before it goes up. Write to taritafoundation@gmail.com with a few times that work.
What you are agreeing to
- Your words are published as you wrote or said them, under the name you choose: full name, initials, first name, or anonymous.
- Your email or phone, if you give one, is used only to contact you about your record and is never published.
- Photographs or documents you upload are held but not published until you confirm which ones may appear.
- You can correct or withdraw your record at any time.
For student volunteers
Tarita Foundation chapters run interview drives at their schools. If you want to collect records for the archive, the Foundation will train you on the question set and the consent script, and your hours count toward its volunteer program. Start at taritafoundation.org/volunteer.
